I have completely forgotten how you can take a command
like wrksplf and use only the options you want to appear
to the user.

You can get close with this command source:

cmd prompt('Display WRKSPLF Prompt')
parm cmd *char len(50) constant('wrksplf ??select() ??period()')
parm len *dec len(15 5) constant(50)

And this command to create the command (you fill in the command name, source
file, etc.):

CRTCMD PGM(QCMDEXC)

If you are not happy allowing access to all the elements of the SELECT and
PERIOD parameters, you will have to write a more elaborate command with the
desired parameters and a program to run WRKSPLF passing just those SELECT
and PERIOD elements. And of course, this quick-and-dirty approach always
displays the WRKSPLF prompt.
