I have moved 0595 racks from machine to machine before, and all you need to
do is make sure the new machine sees all the hardware in the rack, setup the
partition and profile, allocate the hardware desired/required that you need,
and then set the tagged I/O to point to correct adapters, and IPL.

I moved a partition from one machine to another (by moving the 0595 rack and
cables) a few months back in less than an hour.

Subject: Partitioning a 525

We have a 525 that is not partioned using Ops Console.

We are going to add an HMC since we need to "move" several lpars from
another box to this one.

We keep our lpars separated by 595 racks. Is it feasible to simply
"unplug" the 595 from a 550 and move it to the 525, do the lpar stuff on
the HMC and expect it to come up? (someone is saying it is that simple,
and I don't quite buy it.)

TIA,

Sharon Wintermute
