Well, the only VNC server I know about, runs on (technically, interfaces
with) a GUI login capability. So I don't understand how you had a VNC
server running on your i without running X. But maybe *I* am missing
something. So I'd like to know more.

Are we talking about VNC server (I have to admin my "x" lingo is a
bit
limited) You can run a VNC server instance and install applications to
run in it quite easily. I ran a GUI version of Git on the VNC server I
had running on my i. It was a PRPQ thing at one time. It has been
quite some time since I played with it.

My
apologies to the historians of the bunch. AT&T (Bell) were making
their own
unrelated headway in unix at the time, and I confused the topics.

Thanks, Crispin. To clarify, X is the Bell Laboratories graphical
user
interface on which Windoze was based. (Using a very broad brush, it
is
the
"Windows" of Unix. It's also sometimes referred to as X-Windows.)
An
X
Server provides a graphical login to terminals that might connect
over
the
cloud.

I wonder how difficult it would be to get wkhtmltopdf
working on i in Pase?
Well, I stopped considering it when I read, under Features, "...
the
X11
client must be installed." I am not administrator on the systems
that I
use, so haven't had opportunity to work with this. But I'm fairly
certain
X
client is lacking on the standard i installation.

Brings up an interesting question. Has anyone on this list
successfully
installed and exercised an X server on their System i?
