I have to comment that almost always there are reasons for how things are done that have nothing to do with sanity. Whenever I question some things around here, I usually have to get off my high horse and consider that the people who came before me really are not fools and usually had satisfactory reasons. Same goes for the developers at IBM. The decision may turn out not to have been so good after future changes, but the people who were there did have good reasons, typically.
