Stop using Query/400. Try using STRQM. If you do not have that command
it is because you do not have 57##-ST1. Which, if you can talk your boss
into trying and he approves it, will allow you to imbed SQL into your RPG.
It's on your media and you have a 70 day try and buy.

As an administrator you may wish to play with option "10. Work with Query
Manager profiles". Especially with the last option in there, "Select
allowed SQL statements". Read the help on that. Default creation mode is
also interesting.

Advantages:
1 - No record format level checks.
2 - Respects *LIBL. Unlike Query/400 which goes out and finds what
library the file is in and replaces the *LIBL with that library. Query/400
makes it hard to spin off a test library and have the queries respect
that.
3 - Can do more with result fields, etc.

Disadvantages
1 - Small learning curve
2 - Prompted queries are a little easier in Query/400, mainly the
formatting.
