INZTAP CLEAR(*YES) means clear the tape's directory and write *ZEROS
to the entire tape

INZTAP CLEAR(*NO) means clear the tape's directory, but don't bother
to write *ZEROS to the entire tape as I'm getting ready to overwrite
it anyways.

The system considers the tape empty with INZTAP CLEAR(*NO). However
with the right hardware/software data could be still be retrieved from
the tape.

You really only need CLEAR(*YES) if you're selling old tapes to somebody.

Using CLEAR *NO would leave data on the tape wouldn't it?  We want an
empty tape each night to back up on.

Subject: Ultrium 4 Tape Initialization

Anyone know how long it takes an Ultruim 4 tape to initialize?
On a new 8203 with the built in tape drive (type 5746).  I've been
sitting here for almost
2 hours and it still initializing.  Maybe I'm just too impatient...
