It's in 6.1.1

However, I tried this on a 6.1 machine
alter TABLE ROB/DGIBBS alter unit ssd
and that worked just fine.

Ah! I misread the documentation. It does say 'ALTER media-preference' ... and media-preference can be 'unit any' or 'unit ssd'.
