You are in fact correct - you use like
For example
like '%&%'
You are looking for the character &
The delimiters are %
There is a way to look for % but the delimiters have to be defined as
something else
I used this once MANY moons ago. My memory is not as good as it once was

How does one scan for special characters in a field with sql?
Need to find percent sign - %, ampersand - &, and underscore - _
Could be in any position within a field.
Is there perhaps a way to do a like with a hex value?
