The old fart in me wants to agree with you. They do seem to last; we've got a shelf of them in the store room. But I must say that the conveniences of a terminal emulator are significant: less real estate taken up on my desk, using Lan console means I can vegetate at my desk, copying and pasting into documentation is very handy.

I think back on all of the problems that I have had (and continue to have) with twinax devices (displays and printers) and I am less than nostalgic.
