The instructions that come with the cume Install from Optical Media
should tell you to load the cume 1st, the xxxxx540_01 volume 1st,
and set the prompt for media flag to "2" on the go ptf opt 8.
You do have the instructions don't you?

Subject: Two PTF packages ...which to apply first
I'm at a customer site with a v5r3 to v5r4 upgrade.
All is well, but they got shipped two ptf packages.
(1) SF99540 (which is the current cume package)
(2) SF99504 (which is DB2 ? cume package)
The instructions are not clear on when to put which
on first or together.
Any ideas
