Aaron,

Can't answer specifically. We have one of the "old" (aka original) 520's: 4 4326 disk drives (what's that about 32gb? 26+gb useable, anyway) and 1 gb of memory. I've got 14 interactive users/jobs running right now (usually maxes out at 20). Work active jobs shows 1.8% CPU. We've got room for growth apparently, but I would hate to support 3-5000 users! It's gonna be hard enough to get those ~20 off of the system tonight so that I can run end-of-month!

I would be curious to know how many users could be supported on a new 520.
At a previous employer they would have 3000 to 5000 jobs/users active at any
given time and that was 10 years ago on a larger system. I would imagine an
entry level 520 has similar (or more) CPW of that same 10yr old machine.

Guess they were afraid to call it a "mainframe" but this really is going
back to the days of the VT-100 dump-terminal on the user's desk with all
the processing occurring in one place. Not even thin client that does
processing at the desktop or even 5250 that did some processing at the
desktop.
