In general, the System i cannot get a "cold" but the IFS's non-QSYS portion can be a carrier. For example, if a Word document in the System i's IFS contains a virus, it can infect the PC that opens it and the network potentially.

ByteWare has an anti-virus program for the IFS (there might be others). Apparently PC-based a-v programs cannot check the IFS (read that somewhere, but forget where).

Subject: Microsoft SMB Vulnerability (MS10-012) exploitation

Magically today our security team is highlighting some of our servers as potential security risks. I am on the road so I have limited access to things. I was able to determine that it seems to occuring during a client connection to Netserver. Supposedly the iseries is pushing a malformed smb back to the client.

I was wondering if anyone was experiencing something similar. Our vp is running around asking why our iseries are pushing virus' on the network.
