Well, see if you can just use the identity column instead. That would be
a faster performer than

select identitycol into :HostVariable

from final table (insert into rob/delmex (mytext)
values('test'))
select rrn(delmex) into :rrnnbr
from delmex
where identitycol=:hostVariable

but the above is doable.
