Another point to add is that we have just released a tool that will
modernize the database from DDS to SQL automatically, and secondly it
externalizes sub-routines into procedures, converting the original program
into two modules. It also builds wrapper/or stub programs and builds these
as web services. It may be that that your original program doesn't even use
sub routines that well, but if it does then this might help. Converting the
DDS to SQL databases helps performance instantly, and also means you have
access to modern functions that could be built into the database potentially
and make the program logic more simple. We have been using our own tooling
and evolving those tools based upon this sort of work with customers over
the last 20 years or so. In that time I am sure you can appreciate we have
helped customers solve thousands of problems like this, sometimes with
advice, but never has it been not worth having access to the complete
design, visually, graphically and interactively.
