I have used the Personal Communications Async console because it has seemed easier in the past. But it does not have the LAN option that I can see. So I'll add the iSeries Access OpsConsole, seems I can do that even though I have Personal Communications on the machine.

I also like Personal Communications because there is no user count tied to it - hate that thing!!

This box is purely a sandbox right now - no users to kick off.

Is the line description automagically created when I switch to T6? Existing TCP/IP will go down, I'd think. I imagine your existing Telnet will go down, then you have to do it again?

Man, this has been too long - and the world has changed!

I didn't see system values discussed in the Console manual - which need changing? Auto-config? And do I just do F6 and F7 in the LAN Adapter screen to enable it, as well as change console in SST?

Thanks again
Vern

Is there a specific reason you're not using iSeries Access V5R4 with
the OpsConsole Application?

I think I should change to a LAN console, as there is more flexibility
with that, AFAIK. We have 2 Ethernet ports P1-T5 and P1-T6 on a 5706-001
- the former is where our Ethernet line is defined - resource CMN05.

You'd need to change that, as T5 is the only legible port for LAN Console.

So I don't know exactly what to do - I know I can change consoles in
SST, right? But I have no console right now to do some things. Unless I
can do everything in SST or from the control panel.

You can. I've migrated a system with a broken Thin Console to LAN
Console by telnetting into the box, changing the system values and
enabling the SST LAN Adapter using STRSST, etc. No IPL required. Took
about 10 minutes. Of course i had to kick all users of the box for a
short moment to move the LAN cable from port T5 to T6.
