I'm not aware of something that would restart writers automatically.
Is there some form of management software running?
WRKDEVD command will give you a screen of all devices.
The command has parm to subselect *LANPRT or *RMTPRT, and all other kinds of devices. If all the printers are same type then you can shorten the list.
An active writer has to be ended to delete a printer.
ENDWTR XXXX *IMMED will do that.
Then in the WRKDEVD screen use opt 8 (work w/status) to vary it off (make offline) then opt 4 (delete) will let you delete the device description.
If these are remote outq's, and not printer devices, use same ENDWTR,
and then delete the outq.
All this is predicated on your being 100% sure of what you are deleting.
Deleting a printer that is the default for a user profile, or default system printer
could be a big problem.
iSeries Access users with printer sessions might recreate devices you delete (depending upon settings).
I would say (too late) it's best to clean out a system before ever put into production use.
Tread carefully and ask questions if not sure.

Hello all,

How do I get rid of the unnecessary printers on my AS/400? There are a bunch
of network printers configured, from the system's prior home, I'd like to
get rid of them.
They are now generating tons of error messages like 'LANQMNTR: 01/03/2010
16:30:26 Writer for <SOME_PRINTER> Ended ABNORMALLY! Writer Restarted.' -
this is continuous and I'm afraid it's going to fill up disk, as the system
now appears 'busy' all the time.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly
appreciated!
