Change it from backspace to left

But that isn't how a real terminal's backspace behaves: it *should* (1) be non-destructive, and (2) move the cursor to the next *unprotected* character position to the left.

And Mr. Hansen, mapping "Scroll lock" to "help" doesn't disable it as a toggling function; I already tried that (but thanks)
