Rob,

You put the fear of God in me so I immediately did an IPL and it doesn't
seem to have addressed anything that I can see. The entries still show up
as Not Installed on WRKPTFGRP. Note that I am running in ##MACH#B since I
started the PTF apply process. Here are some screen shots of my "PTF state"
as it stands:

Aaron,

Starting with 5.4 or 6.1 WRKPTFGRP will show you multiple levels of
groups. Prior to that it would only show you the current level. This was
a problem if you downloaded a group and told it to apply at the next ipl.
Then you couldn't see what group you were currently at.

Aaron,
If all your cumes are not installed then a cardinal sin has been done on
your new machine. NEVER run a machine without at least one cume level
applied. Stop everything you're doing, bring the system down to a
restricted state and IPL ASAP! Cumes always require an IPL to go to
Installed. After the IPL do another WRKPTFGRP to check the status. Also
do a
GO LICPGM
50. Display log for messages
leave defaults. You should see something like
Apply PTF started.
Applying of PTFs for product 5761999 completed successfully.
Applying of PTFs for product 5761SS1 completed successfully.
Applying of PTFs completed.
PTFs applied or removed during IPL.

When you power down try
ENDSBS SBS(*ALL) DELAY(120)
DSPMSG QSYSOPR until you see "System ended to restricted condition"
PWRDWNSYS DELAY(120) RESTART(*YES) IPLSRC(B) CONFIRM(*NO)
SIGNOFF *LIST
I prefer controlled over immediate. If the programmers of the
applications knew enough to check the status for system shutdown then they
can shut down their applications in an orderly fashion. If not, then
after the time specified in DELAY() the system goes down *IMMED. Signing
off after the pwrdwnsys may cut two minutes off of your ipl because it
won't wait the DELAY(120) on you to signoff.

Do not try to put on other groups until after the ipl of your initial
cume. Judging by what I am seeing I suspect you might even be running on
the 'A' side. If you do a DSPPTF you might see
IPL source . . . : ##MACH#A
Running on the A side play a lot of heck getting ptf's installed.
Other than the original cume, I have no problem putting groups on at the
same time as the cume. It's not like back on AS/400's where I was in
constant fear of getting a "link loader full" message trying that.
