On that point, I agree completely.

I was simply hoping there was something already sitting in some system-defined ILE global variable or some such, that I'd somehow overlooked.

As it is, switching the existing QUSRJOBI call to the JOBI0400 format (which also includes the two fields I was getting out of JOBI0100) did the job rather nicely.
