Mike,

We are still on V5R4M0 but applied a lot of CUMS and PTFs last weekend, as
always we didn't worry too much as it wasn't a major version or release
upgrade.

But we experienced problems with a specific configuration related to logs,
that caused Apache to crash, we've managed to identify and delete the entry,
but we lost some days of data.

Worst, after Apache was running (but not fixed) and as we've had to register
new domains, we've proceed to modify some DNS settings, saving and
restarting it.

DNS was automatically updated from BIND 8 to 9, and as they aren't 100%
compatible it crashed taking all internet with it, to make things harder
iSeries Navigator (V5R4) is totally incompatible so we need to get BIND 8
back (strictly not recommended) then fix it manually, we lost another day
just on that.

More than once I've thought to get the tapes and switch back, but support
strongly discouraged the idea. In fact I'm still thinking about that, as
there's no warranty that DNS would remain working (both PMRs are still
opened).

So if you have some particular Apache configuration and / or you use and
update DNS server on iSeries, take a very careful look on everything related
to that.

Best Regards,

Rubens

Just remember the reapply PTFs afterward. I've done this a few times, and
never had issues. But with saves - you can't be to careful.
