Thanks for those links, Charles.

Personally, my most extensive use of this has come from being able to
extract DB2 data from shell scripts. Like:

FISCAL_YEAR=$(db2 "select FYEAR from OPPARMS")
FISCAL_MONTH=$(db2 'select FMONTH from OPPARMS')

That approach is so much better than passing parameters...

But of course if you're not writing a lot of shell scripts on your system
(most system i shops don't), the capability may be dubious.
