If you truly want to export it to use on a different system, you may run CVTOVLPFM to a temp file and then CPYTOPCD to go to a folder and document or CPYTOSTMF to go to a stream file. The resulting file is still AFP and needs something on the other end that can understand that format. There are some free viewers and converters, but they still need any fonts and page segments to be complete. If you need to migrate a lot of AFP resources, such as page defs, form defs, fonts, overlays, and page segs, to another system that can use AFP, I'll give you some code that converts all of the AFP objects in a library.
I'm guessing that you don't want AFP on the other end but rather some sort of image format. If that is the case try printing the overlay, then the iSeries will resolve the fonts, pegs segs etc. and do scaling to your printer's resolution. If you have any of the tools to convert spool files to PDF, just run that and convert the PDF to image.
If you have the old AFP utilities installed, GO AFPU has an option 22 that lets you sample print overlays.
