From: Pete Massiello

Again, I enjoyed reading Bob's articles, and believe he is a great
advocate for the i, but ...

Anyone predicting the demise of IBM i, and thereby urging people to migrate their applications away from the native environment to a platform neutral run-time would not be an "advocate for the i", in my book. I put them in the category of Migration Vendor, under the guise of Modernization Expert.

I gave Bob Cancilla as much flak as I could on a couple discussion lists - most notably the AS/400 Professionals list at www.linkedin.com, but could no-way take credit for him removing his blog. There must have been more powerful forces at work here, from elsewhere.

Bob's assertions were in direct conflict with statements by Ross Mauri about the strategic nature of IBM i, and IBM continuing to recommend RPG.

The convergence of IBM i, AIX, and Linux under Power Server and blade umbrellas, along with remarkable price cuts & performance boosts for IBM i, are strategic moves that reposition the platform for new growth. I've never been more optimistic than right now for the future of IBM i.

-Nathan.
