We're preparing for our yearly DR test. If we wait until after the test to
change the plan, we don't know whether the changes are good until next year.
We change the plan when preparing for the test rather than after the test.

Thanks,

Steve

Can't they give you a once or twice a year DR test? We used to try those
before changing our DR plan, There was always some problem found. Now we
restore monthly on DR lpars on machines in different locations.

Jeff -

Just to clarify, we will be restoring on a machine at a Sungard DR center
NOT on our production box.

Jeff,

That isn't testing, that is suicide. Never restore onto the
live
machine, never, ever, ever. I don't care if you are one guy, or 400

Testing is where you go to another machine and restore leaving
the
original machine UNTOCUHED.

Not to sound 'flippant' in another way, but . . .

I'm a 1-person IT shop with a non LPARed 520. There is no way on God's
green earth that I would try a complete reinstall from scratch over a
weekend just to see if it works.

And yes, I know that means it's untested.

to discover if everything will work.

However, a full save followed by a full restore, will put everything
back the way it should be and you can expect your Web Applications to
run just fine. The DR Test will prove that you are saving everything
and
that everything is restoring correctly.

Up until now, our DR process has been simple - restore from our Save
21
tape according to the Backup and Recovery Guide. Now, we've started
running some apps that use Websphere. Does that complicate our DR
process? It appears that all of the Websphere pieces live in the
IFS.
Will there be tweaks to Websphere after we restore the IFS to the DR
box
or will it 'just run'?

Thanks,

Steve
