You can use DDM files to get data from other iSeries machines, but I don't
believe that it can be an ODBC client.

Scott Klement has examples of using JDBC from IBM i to other platforms.

There are also commercial products available which allow an RPG program to
access SQL Server - Richard Schoen can comment on his software better than
me...
