I strongly recommend using NFS - the i works fine as an NFS client, and you have none of the nonsense of QNTC, which can be horrible, in our experience.

It does require that a free utility be installed on the Windows box - it is available from Microsoft, so it is not going to hurt the machine. Basically, it is an NFS server.

This is really nice, because the remote share looks like something native to your IFS - CPY is a simple way to get files over there. No FTP scripts, nothing special.

You can see more about implementing this on our wiki site - http://wiki.rjssoftware.com/wiki - just go there and put NFS into the search box - you will see several articles listed. There will be some product-related references, but it is mostly generic and vendor-neutral.

I have a need to share a file between our server (v5R4) and a W2K3

I've been reading the archives and trying to determine the best
approach. We used to do this via QNTC but we moved the target
application to an AS/400 so it's been a while for us. I'm trying to
grasp the issue of SMB signing and QNTC and other avenues to move a file
from our V5R4 system to this windows server. We currently FTP the file
but the target system wants to get away from this. The volume is low in
frequency and size. My concern is stability and ease to implement.
This is a Windows server that I will have very little input into how it
is managed....
