Vista and 7 require you to change several security policies to allow
interoperation with NT4, but it still works.

Novell still does it, and it works reasonably well.

In the short & long term, it's probably easier to just get a couple of
PCs running Win 2003 or 2008 server. (primary & backup)

SBS2008 is a good choice for small businesses, a lot of functionality
for a good price (But make sure to buy proper hardware - like IBM's
x3650 M2).
