I'm looking for some help from the hardware experts on the list.
I have a 9406-270 with a 5075 tower. The tower to this point was only
used for IOAs to drive some external tape drives.
We decided to add DASD to the tower. We did an MES config and ordered
the parts. They are used but certified parts from AVNET.

This config only shows adding 4 4318s but we added 6 4318s.
I had to move some of the existing cards in the 5075 into different
slots.
I used SPT to develop a new sysplan for the system.
Here is that report.

Description.........: LVT - Detail
Date................: Thu Jul 02 07:52:16 EDT 2009
Validations Done....: Hardware, Partition, Console, Load Source
Hardware status.....: Valid configuration
- WARNING -- switching SCSI tape cards that
can potentially control disk (for example 5712)
may not be switched between dissimilar
operating
systems.
- WARNING -- partition hardware may be
installed in migration towers and cannot be
accounted for by the LPAR validation tool
- WARNING -- when a 2749 attaches a 3995
Optical Library DataServer, the 2749 must not
be
placed under the same IOP which drives the Load
Source DASD
IT IS THE USER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT
ALL PARTITION REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.
Partition status....: Valid configuration
Console status......: Valid configuration
Load Source status..: Valid configuration
Disclaimer..........: This LPAR validation is provided "as is" without
warranty of any kind. IBM is not responsible for
items ordered or not ordered as a result of this
output. IBM DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL EXPRESS AND
IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS INCLUDING, BUT
NOT LIMITED TO, THE WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF
MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE. IBM WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT,
INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY,
PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WITH RESPECT
TO THE LPAR VALIDATION.
Warning.............: The output of this tool displays the parts
placement required for the partitions you have
defined. As you configure your order using
eConfig you will have the opportunity to ask
that IBM manufacturing place these parts per the
LVT designations for the 9406-570, 9406-595,
9117-570, 9118-575, 9119-590 and 9119-595 system
using the Customer Specified Placement (CSP)
feature. Access the following website for more
details
http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/power/csp
If this CSP feature is not selected IBM
manufacturing will place all the parts assuming
they are in a single partition system. It is
the customer responsibility to move the parts
for the customized partitioning. IBM services
are available for a fee to perform this
placement if requested. Please be advised that
verification of disk placement with respect to
data protection restrictions has NOT been
completed for this system. If this system will
be utilizing the customer specified placement
program it is your responsibility to ensure that
data protection restrictions are met as
verification of these requirements will NOT be
completed during the manufacturing process.
Please ensure that placement of all internal
disks is in compliance with the restrictions of
the data protection defined for the system. For
additional information with respect to data
protection restrictions please consult the IBM
product documentation.
Warning.............: It is strongly recommended that you do capacity
planning for the workload planned in each
partition and then determine the LPAR
configuration required to achieve the desired
performance and room for growth in that
partition.
Warning.............: Warning - The 5705 can drive internal disk and an
external tape or DVD. However, in a LPAR system,
when the 5705 is used in a secondary partition
for the partition load source disk, an external
tape or DVD that is also attached cannot be used
as an ALT IPL device for that partition.

I installed the cards into the 5075 based on this plan. When the system
comes up into DST or a full IPL, it sees all the cards in their new
positions but it doesn't see any of the 4318s I installed.
I've reseated all the drives and that didn't help.
Is it possible the sysplan is valid but the 2782 isn't in a slot where
it can "see" the disk units?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Scott
