Yes, i5/OS supports updateable views. There are rules that define when an
SQL view is not updateable (i.e. if it joins two PFs), but even in those
situations you could implement an INSTEAD OF TRIGGER and get around the
restriction (available with V5R4 I believe).

Views make a lot of sense, especially for code reuse and isolation,
security... I don't see them used much in practice since embedded SQL is
quite easy to use for programmers and offers much of the same functionality
plus an ORDER BY :)

If your select / omit logicals are "read only" that can be accomplished in a
view.

Depending on how a view is defined, it can be update-able. Does i5/OS
support update-able views (curious, I don't know). Otherwise, I think you'll
have to code select / omit criteria as part of any update.
