Hi, Doug:

I don't know about "a box with S36EE disabled" ... I just know I am not running "in the S/36 environment" -- I do not have S36E enabled for any of my user profiles on our system. And, if I type a "*" at the beginning of a command line, I get a nice error message from OS/400 that says:

String beginning '* ' not valid command name.
Error found on *N command.
If I type "STRS36" and press enter, then I can type a "*" at the start of a line and I see what you describe.

if you type "ENDS36" and press Enter, you should be able to exit from the S36 Environment to the "normal" OS/400 QCMD environment, and then you will see what I described above.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

But, I am not running in the S/36 Environment (never have, never will...) ?

When you type * and get the next screen, is the title "System/36 Command
Entry"? I don't have current access to a box with S36EE disabled.
