Usually, if I'm actually *intentionally* creating fake names, I tend to
mine the casts of my favorite comic strips ("Beetle Bailey," "On the
Fastrack," "9 Chickweed Lane," and so forth). And if I need a fake
company name, I tend to go with things like "Universal Foobar" or
"Foobars, Inc."
Detecting obviously fake names is a battle you'll probably never win.
I had a professor at CSU Long Beach, who never made fun of anybody's
name: Dr. Wayne Dick.
