The lack of integration between IBM's BRMS and the IBM TS3100 tape magazine/drive (24 slots) makes for an awkward system that cannot be automated.

BRMS is setup with a move policy that runs on Friday mornings. We move tapes once per week. Eligible tapes need to have their locations changed in the BRMS database from TAPMLB02 to OFFSITE. A movement report needs to tell the operator which tapes to remove from the system.

Wouldn't it be nice if it worked seamlessly?

Running tape movement causes a tape error because only one tape can be "ejected" from the TS3100 at a time. You just can't move tapes in BRMS without the system trying to eject the tapes.

Message ID . . . . . . : CPA401E Severity . . . . . . . : 40
Message type . . . . . : Inquiry
Message . . . . : Library device storage slots full (C R)

Adjusting the data area QUSRBRM/Q1APRM and following IBM's procedure for verifying moves doesn't accomplish the task either as it fails the same way when you verify the moves.

What's the point of even having this system if such a simple operation as moving a tape logically in the database cannot be accomplished?

I tried putting CPA410E in the system reply list but that doesn't seem trap the message because its an Inquiry message.

My goal is to run movement on Friday mornings and have a report for my operator showing what tapes need to be moved from the TS3100 to offsite storage.

I just can't believe this hasn't been addressed. Anyone having this issue? Have a solution?

Jerry
