Hi

Manager just tempted a data entry manipulation and got a session
error during a file operation. Telephoned the users and found
that they knew about the problem since the program was installed
in 2005. When it happens, they just reply cancel and go back to
work.

Obviously, manager is not happy, but thankfully is more unhappy
with the users who didn't report the bug than the developpers
that made and supposedly tested it.

Is there a way of preventing users from doing this kind of thing,
or at least a way of getting informed when the information gets
logged?

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answers:

"RPG: Exception and Error Handling"

Section 4.2.7 of "Who knew you could do that with RPG IV?"
<http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245402.pdf>

BTW, the response that I outlaw is G. Alas, messages make that
sound less serious than a C, tempting credulous users. But, as
we all know, honest-to-goodness broken is much easier to fix than
just a little bit broken. <grin />

HTH,
Terry.
