Hi Rick,

For our product, we have used FTP, but have given the user an interface to provide the connection and other setup details. The user downloads and installs the software on the PC and then enters the details in the interface which then is used for the FTP program & other application setup requirements.

Of course, we are still assuming that the user has FTP access to the AS/400 without any firewalls.

Thanks & Regards,
Vaibhav Jabulee

subject: software distribution via client initiated download

Hey all, I'm in a discussion on how to accomplish the subject line,
and I think I have a solution, but might have some holes in my logic.

the idea is to create several virtual CD images (products, versions,
etc), store them on a web server and allow customer to download via
browser to their PCs, transfer the image to the sys i, load into a
local virtual optical device and execute a LODRUN.

now for the gaps in my knowlege: what are the different ways / best
way to move the image file to an sys i share so that it can be loaded
into the optical catalog with the least muss and fuss for a non-techie
user?

I'm assuming the customer might not have client access, their sys i
ftp server is inactive or locked behind a firewall, and they may not
have network file sharing on the IFS.

my best thought is to have them ftp it from their PC to the sys i via
DOS command line,

any other ideas?
