I'm hoping that we can leverage this increased maintenance cost in such
a way that it can help justify upgrading to a new Power6 system with
LTO3 or LTO4 drives...
We might even try to sneak in a CBU system for our offsite DR Site!
So ... There just might be a "silver lining" to this maintenance
increase. <smile>

You may wish to look at new tape drives also. We replaced 3590's with
LTO3 drives.
We have some old 3590 tape cases I may give away at a LUG meeting.

We have an older 550 system with several older 3590 tape drives, that
just came off a 5 year contract ... We expected it to go up.
It has been checked and double checked ... This is what IBM says they
will be charging us....

That is a huge increase, and I don't know of any of our customers who
have increased that much (if any!!!!). Is there anything unique about
your configuration. Did you ask for a breakdown so that you can see
what increased?
