I saw a presentation by one of the providers, I do not recall which, and it seemed to me like a great way to go; from a business, not a personal perspective, as I would want to just fix the existing stuff instead of affix something to correct applications. Of course the details did not span fully to the B&R implications which would inherently be complicated by additional files, even if at the same time it was massively simplifying getting encryption going for fields of any chosen file. I can not recall, but of the implementation, I believe files would require a primary key. Depending on what the history of database design, such a requirement may be problematic enough for some files & programs, requiring so much change, that it might be better just to change such programs & their files directly instead.

Hi, I've got several responses that will involve many hours of programming, does everyone think that using a 3rd party product is not the best way to go? Thanks

Hello folks, I know there are 3rd party options (Townsend/Linoma, etc.)?for field encryption but b4 I look at those, does IBM have?a way to use field?encryption on AS400 data???Our intention is to encrypt or mask fields so that only
those users w/the key can view the encrypted fields.

We've been writing home grown apps for over 25 years and
have thousands of files written by in-house FTE's as well as
dozens of consultants. Standards may not have been adhered
to and if I could buy a 3rd party package to do this, it
might be best.
Does anyone else think that's appropriate?
