Hi Scott
Understood
However I find that I tend to still read the body of the e_mail irrespective of the subject line

Subject: Re: Stupid question of the century

Dear Alan and everyone else,

It would help me greatly if you would please use meaningful subject
lines on threads posted here. I'd like to be able to read the subject
of the message and know what the discussion will be about.

Something like "Add fields to PF without exclusive lock" would've been a
good one for this thread.

It's not useful to know that you are asking a question. Virtually every
message posted asks a question in some fashion or another. I need to
know what the question is about, not merely that it's a question. It's
also not useful to know that you view the question as "stupid".
Especially since this question *wasn't* stupid.

Please help me out and use a meaningful subject line! Thanks in
advance for your help.

Hi guys
I've just been asked the following question by my boss's boss
Is there anyway to add new fields (columns) "on the fly" to an existing
file, without having an exclusive lock on that file.
In other words, the file is still being used while the field is added
I know that chgpf is out of the question (unless someone proves me wrong).
I know that SQL is also out of the question (ALTER TABLE x ADD EXTRAFIELD
DEC(7, 2) NOT NULL DEFAULT 0) - again unless someone proves me wrong
If anyone knows of any way, any language, any procedure, any function to
achieve this, please drop me a line.

Thanks in advance
