Hi, Mike:

I looked into this a few years ago, when working with one of the other colleges then in the IBM PIE program (now Academic Initiative), who wanted to try to run the AIX version of Oracle in PASE ... apparently, this was not possible because there are some low-level "system hooks" that Oracle provides and that must be installed into AIX (I think they are called "kernel extensions"), and this is not possible with PASE. So, they ended up installing Oracle on Windows on the Integrated xSeries Server card on their iSeries, or perhaps they installed in under Linux in their Linux LPAR, or both... I cannot recall now.

Email me privately, off-list, if you need any more details, and I can put you in touch with one of the Professors from that college.

HTH,

I remember past discussions or Oracle running on iSeries and I can find some info from a few years back on this but nothing recent and nothing that gives much detail. One the Oracle site there is no mention of iSeries or i5/os but there is AIX5L and Linux on Power. If one wanted/needed to run Oracle in an iSeries shop is running an AIX or Linux partition the answer? If so is anyone on this list doing this and have any feedback for someone who might need to do the same in the near future?

Thanks
