Lukas,

This is a development machine on a developer lease directly with IBM so I theoretically couldn't have gotten better advice about the BCS and JS12 :-)

Not really complaining, just noting the differences in support and I guess I didn't really think through the support issues since I think in that last 17 years of AS/400-i ownership I have had exactly two drives fail and probably called software support 6 times. The i just runs and always has. I figured that a BCS with a blade was just as stable, even though it might be more complex. I am learning a new thing here!

As it turns out, the precipitating failure of the media tray is still being investigated. They hope to have a patch available *soon*. The VIOS failing to boot is a mystery both to me and the AIX group but without VIOS I can't get my IBM i LPAR to boot so I am stuck. I spent an hour and a half on the phone yesterday but I have all day today to try to run this down.

I'll keep you posted.

Pete

Good question! Â I always just took the "standard" coverage that came

Most Blades/BladeCenter ship with a 3 year warranty with a next
business day coverage by default.

Already beginning to miss the i in System i (i=Integration of HW/SW/support)

Your BP should've told you that, and make sure that you get what you
needed. But it's a damn shame, many of them don't care about the
newest additions to the IBM i capable platforms.
