You're talking two different issues here:
1 - Different serial number.
2 - Restoring from an old release and upgrading to a new release.

In the link I sent the first sentence said:
Use this information if you need to recover your system to a different
system (for example, a system with a different serial number).
So I think the steps cover that quite well. See step 32-c.

On step 2 I would always recommend upgrading first to a release supported
on the new hardware, restore that, and upgrade to a current release. I
realize that is not always feasible, for example someone wants to go from
V4R1 on really old hardware to something on the latest hardware that
requires a minimum of V5R4M5. In this case you might look at:
