AS400 Data Migration-Pre & Post Migration Tasks






Hi,

My customer is looking for a data migration where data needs to be backed
up from one server and restored to another AS400 server.I have to provide
the high level plan for this-some of which are going to be excuted by the
third party vendor.

He is looking for a high level plan of pre & post migration tasks.

Considering the above type of migration,I have drawn a high level plan.

Please can someone review this and let me know if this plan is ok or more
needs to be added and what.

Pre Migration Task:-

1.Pre Migration Backup-GO SAVE followed by option 21.
2.Transport the cartridge tapes to the target location.
3.Restore this data to the target server.(Third party vendor to do this)
4.Getting the ip of the new server from the Network Team /Third Party and
connecting to the new server once the restore is over.

Post Migration Task:
1.Checking if various services like File Transfer etc are working fine.
2.Install the licence information for third party tools (eg licence number
etc)on target server and checking for the third party tools if they are
working fine by running the tools.
3.Running batch jobs to see the time taken to finish and hence determine
if
the performance level is same as compared to previous server.

I am assuming the OS is not being upgraded here and that there are
seperate
production and development boxes without any partition.

Kindly let me know if this plan will be ok for the above case.

Also in case the servers have partition then in what way the above plan
will
change
