Glad you created the example - it's always easier to respond
to practice, instead of theory. At the risk of stating the
obvious, the examples are almost always easy to create, and
IBM always say that they are not meant for production. They
know how to cover their lovely arses.

Simon already explained what "the name" refers to. Since
CHECK(VNE) is for checking that you've keyed a valid OS/400 object
name, "the name"
refers to the object name you're keying in.
My question for you is this: What are you trying to
trying tothis just an exercise in understanding all of the possible DDS
options?
