Simon already explained what "the name" refers to. Since CHECK(VNE) is for checking that you've keyed a valid OS/400 object name, "the name" refers to the object name you're keying in.

My question for you is this: What are you trying to accomplish? Is this just an exercise in understanding all of the possible DDS options? Or do you have some sort of business problem that you're trying to solve? If so, what?
