Perhaps you figured this out from the rest of the thread. Triggers are
just fine. However, they can negatively affect performance if the trigger
programmer tries to do too much in the trigger. As stated by one poster,
it's fine to simply call the api to post an entry to the system journal.
It's another thing entirely to shoot off an email, fax, print out and
activate the fire alarm on the factory floor whenever any record is read.
Think of a query that reads the entire file and how slow it would become
if every rows fired off such a trigger.
