Nathan, not sure if you will be able to design a Chart-of-Accounts
that is better than others in existence but go ahead.
The word "better" is kind-of subjective. It would be good if I could come up with a database design that was intuitive and flexible - something that appealed to both commercial companies as well as non-profit, public, and government entities.
And a design that's not limiting - something that could apply to any size of entity. I was the lead developer of a credit union package which included a lot of exceptional applications which interfaced with a general ledger. But the GL was geared to just one organizational entity. And that was fine for small credit unions. But we never did appeal really well to multi-branch credit unions due to the weakness of the GL. Since the GL was central to the entire product line, it sadly limited the growth of the company.
