It's a flexible world ...
I might qualify that by saying that it's a dynamic world, so software should be flexible. That was my primary reason for initiating this topic.
And different organizations may have different things that they want to cross reference time with. In a manufacturing setting a production manager might want to know how many hours were vested in producing a particular batch of peanut butter. The process may not require a design phase - the production process is already understood.
But maybe the plant operates on low margins, so they track labor costs closely, and use that to tweak the production process.
Just some thoughts.
