When we upgraded our production LPAR from 5.2 to 5.4 (Dec 07), we could
not run the installation from image catalogs (all pre-install PTFs were
applied, load source space expanded, etc). IBM support advised us to
install from CD, which worked perfectly.

Our test LPAR installed fine from image catalogs. The only thing I can
think of is the production LPAR is controlling in our environment
(9406-810). Never did get root cause from that.

Subject: Re: Restore on V5R4 after upgrade painfully slow(after the
fact)

Heard of a local company here that had restore issues this week. After
6
attempts to install lic from tape (booting from tape was no problem)
they
gave up after the hangs. Ended up installing LIC from CD. Everything
else from their tapes, and reinstalling cume and other ptf's. Two disk
drives in the same raid set died within 24 hours of each other. Same
box
(so it wasn't a resave or M5 issue).
After multiple trips from senior executives into the machine room
offering
expletives because orders could not be taken. (Down from Saturday
through
Tuesday.)

They are looking at an HA solution.
