Booth,

Two possible solutions.

One: Create an external definition (DDS or DDL) for the file. Use CPYF with FMTOPT(*NOCHK) and replace the S.JOBMAST file with the new one (which would have a "good" record format name).

Two: And easier. Use BLDINDX procedure to create the logical (aka alternate index). I've still got tons of these things on our system (replacing as I touch them - or get cranky).

Subject: How might I deal with a physical file with a record Format name of "S.JOBMAST"

How might I deal with a physical file with a record Format name of
"S.JOBMAST" (A QS36F file)

I have never seen a record format with a punctuation mark in it. I am
attempting to create a logical over this file and it is not allowing me
to use the format name as-is. Any ideas?
