With recent AS/400 announcements, companies operating on the AS/400
today >have a decision to make-rehost, rewrite, or replace.

Hmmmm....on a lot of my stuff.....there is no rehosting, no rewriting,
and no replacing. Granted I have one vendor - that is no longer in
business that will be a pain when I go to V6R1 but that is like 1 out of
22.........

IBM will have you upgrade your AS/400 to the newly created Power

So, let me get this straight....when I get to my new Power System family
server...I have to totally rewrite my applications with Websphere....?

Oh crap...cancel that order for the MMA box.

What is the cost for WAS/Express?

Complex? Well, you have a possible argument on that one.

Over time, your company's critical data and business process have
become >locked into the proprietary, low-level structures of the DB2/400
database.

Proprietary? You can get into a *&^%$# contest on this subject matter
but I'd argue that Oracle is the most proprietary DB alive. Actually I
think that a few problems with DB2/400 is that they keep on looking at
the ANSI standards too much......I'd like it if they were less standards
based....

Nah, there aren't any lies in this document.

how is it a lie? RPG has not been enhanced to include Java features
like managed code and classes ( so RPG code cant be modernized ). And
green screen apps take a lot of work to convert to the web. IBM is
actively pushing PHP, which requires a rewrite of your RPG apps. HP
is saying you can use their INFINITE software product to convert your
RPG code to something that uses the Oracle database in place of DB2
and the browser instead of client access.
