CPYTOIMPF produces a csv (comma separated variable) file intended to be
opened with Excel or another spreadsheet-type program. Whay you want is
a straight copy of the file in fixed format to go to the z. FTP will do
this just fine in binary mode from i to z. I worked for years on data
from a 370 (or its successors) written on tape or transmitted via SNADS
or even 3780 emulation from z to i. Both are fixed format, packed
decimals are the same, record separators are the same. Blocking (on
tape) is the same. For tape from i to z, you copy the database file to a
tape file that specifies ANSI format rather than SAVF format. FTP will
do the same thing.

Subject: output of CPYTOIMPF?
I don't yet have an "i" around and the manual doesn't really say, so
could somebody tell me what the output from a CPYTOIMPF looks like? It
is suitable to be ftp'ed to another, non-i, system and then read by a
program?
A person on my "z" forum asked a question on how to get the contents
from a "DB2 table on the iSeries" to a "z" to be processed by an
application. Actually, what I first told him was to just ftp the file
because both the "z" and the "i" are EBCDIC based. I still think that
would work, but I'm unsure because I don't have an "i" to play around on
to see what actually happens.
